Pandemi şartlarında canlı albüm kaydetmek mi? Bu tam bir çılgınlık :) Ama, şanslı 4 müzisyen bu çılgınlığı yaşayabildi.

Alto saksafoncu Jim Snidero, piyanoda Orrin Evans, basta Peter Washington ve davulda Joe Farnsworth ile Pennsylvania’nın ünlü mekanı Deer Head Inn’de sınırlı sayıda davetli ile pandemi kurallarına uygun verilen konserde nefis bir canlı albüm kaydetmişler.

Gözlerimizi kapattığımızda kendimi bir süredir oldukça özlediğimiz kulüp havasının içinde buluveriyoruz. Müzik yazarı dostum Dan Bilawsky albüm notlarında “Bu lanet olası salgının sisini kesmek ve bu anı zaman içinde işaretlemek için mükemmel bir fırsat gibi hissettim.” farklı ülkelerde iki müziksever aynı şeyleri hissediyorsa bu iş tamam demektir.

Altocu Jim Snidero, EMI, Criss Cross, Milestone ve Savant etiketlerinde 20'den fazla kayıtta çalmış deneyimli bir kayıt sanatçısıdır. İçerisinde bulunduğu çalışmalar arasında Mingus Big Band, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Palmieri, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Brother Jack McDuff ve daha fazlası ile çalışmaları yer alıyor.

Snidero’nun 1989’daki Red Records etiketi ile kaydettiği Live albümünden bu yana ilk canlı albümü, bu arada basta Peter Washington’da tesadüf eseri o albümde yer alıyordu. Orrin Evans ise bir önceki albümleri olan Project-K ve Waves of Calm’da da kendisine eşlik etmişti. Davulcu Joe Farnsworth, Manhattan'ın yukarısındaki Smoke caz kulübünün kayıtlarında sıkça denk geldiğimiz maharetli ve tecrübeli bir davulcu olarak bu albümde de bilgeliğini ve çarpıcı eşliğini konuşturuyor.

Savant Records’un albüm kayıt kalitesini çok severim. "Live at Deer Head Inn" canlı kaydında da stüdyo kadar berrak olmasa da mekân derinliği hissi alabildiğim ama ölçülü bir kayıt kulaklarımda. Ton dengesi çarpıcı derecede iyi. Gösteri sırasında hiç sıkıcı an bulamıyorum 

Şampiyonlar ligi gibi gibi bir kadroyla beraber çalıyorsan ekip arkadaşlarına ilham verebilmek için tüm varlığını, tüm tecrübeni müziğine katabilmelisin ve grup arkadaşların samimiyetini gözlemleyebilmelilerdir. Bu kayıt canlı canlı çalabilmenin samimiyetinin ve tecrübenin parlattığı güzel bir canlı albüm kaydı.

Albümde benim en keyif aldığım parça Grant Green’in 1963 kaydının isim parçası olan Idle Moments oldu. Idle Moments ismiyle müsemma boş zaman dinginliğinde bir parçadır ve ana motif grup elemanlarının sololarda gezinişleriyle genişletilmiştir. Özüne sahip kalınarak yaratılmış bir röprodüksiyon hassasiyetiyle yeniden hayata geçen eser ile kendinize hayatın tüm koşuşturmacası ve dışarının tüm kötülüğünden izole hissedeceğiniz bir 6.48 saniyeyi kendinize armağan edebilirsiniz.

Günü gelip canlı performanslar yeniden hayat bulmaya başladığında imkanlarımız ölçüsünde bilet satın alarak, öncelikle lokal mekanlardan başlayarak, sosyal mesafe kurallarına ve maskeye dikkat ederek mekanlara destek olalım. Sanatçıların ve mekânın aylardır gelirden uzak kaldığını düşünerek kendilerine katkı sağlayabilmek için elimizden geleni yapalım. Ve en önemlisi her performanstan anın hakkını verecek kadar keyif alalım. O gün gelene kadar Jim Snidero- Live at "Deer Head Inn" size güzel zaman geçirtecek bir kayıt.

To be able to record a live album under pandemic conditions?

This is a complete madness :)

But the lucky 4 musicians were able to live this madness and now we are able to lucky to listen to them.

With Alto saxophonist Jim Snidero, Orrin Evans on piano, Peter Washington on bass and Joe Farnsworth on drums, they recorded a delightful live album at Pennsylvania’s famed Deer Head Inn. Of course a limited number of guests did see them on the stage in accordance with the pandemic rules. When we close to our eyes, we find ourselves in the club atmosphere that we have been missing for a while. "I felt like the perfect opportunity to mystify this damn pandemic and mark this moment in time," my music writer friend Dan Bilawsky said in the album notes. If two music lovers in different countries feel the same thing, this means you can feel the same way too.

Altoist Jim Snidero is an experienced recording artist who has played over 20 recordings on the labels of EMI, Criss Cross, Milestone and Savant. His works include works with Mingus Big Band, Frank Sinatra, Eddie Palmieri, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Brother Jack McDuff and more. Snidero's first live album since the album “Live”, which he recorded with Red Records in 1989, was coincidentally featured on that album on bass by Peter Washington. Orrin Evans accompanied him on his previous albums Project-K and Waves of Calm. Drummer Joe Farnsworth shows his wisdom and striking accompaniment in this album as a talented and experienced drummer that we often come across on recordings of the Smoke jazz club in upper Manhattan.

I ‘ve always loved the recording quality of Savant Records. In Live at Deer Head Inn live recording, even though it is not as clear as the studio, I can get the sense of the depth of the space but a measured recording is in my ears. Tonal balance is strikingly good. I can't find any dull moments during the performance.

If you are playing with a team like Champions League, you should be able to add all your presence, all your experience to your music and observe the sincerity of your bandmates in order to inspire your teammates. This beautiful record is a live recording that has been shone by the sincerity and experience of being able to play it live collectively.

My favorite piece of the album is ‘Idle Moments’ The title track of Grant Green's 1963 recording. It is a piece of relaxation of leisure time, like the meaning of the name Idle Moments, and its main motif is expanded by the group members' walking within the solos. With the work brought to life with the precision of a reproduction created by keeping its essence, you can present yourself a 6.48 seconds in which you will feel isolated from all the hustle and bustle of life and all the evil outside.

When the day comes and live performances start to come to life again, let's support the venues by purchasing tickets as much as we can do. Starting from local venues, paying attention to social distance and wearing masks. Let's do our best to contribute to the artists and the venues, thinking that they have been away from income for months and months. And most importantly, let's enjoy every performance enough to give the right of the moment. Until that day comes, Jim Snidero- Live at Deer Head Inn is a recording that makes you are having a hell of a good time!
