Caz tarihinin en saygı duyulan piyanistlerinden Keith Jarrett’in sağlık sorunları nedeniyle müziği bırakmak zorunda kalması müzik dünyasının çok ses getiren gelişmelerinden biri oldu. Bu mutsuz edici haber piyanist Noah Haidu‘nun babasıyla paylaştığı caz anılarına doğru bir yolculuğun tetikleyicisi olmuş. Albüm Kasım 21-22 tarihinde New York Sear Sound’da kaydedilmiş. "Slowly: Song for Keith Jarrett" son derece modern, özgün ve başarılı bir albüm. Noah Haidu’nun bu efsane rhythm section ile bir araya getirdiği grup parlayan yıldız piyanistin diskografisinde çok değerli bir parça olarak hatıralanacak.

The most special gift a father can give to his son is the love of jazz

One of the most respected pianists in the history of jazz, Keith Jarrett had to retire due to pair of debilitation strokes, and it was one of the most notable developments in the music world. This unfortunate news triggered a journey towards the jazz memories that pianist Noah Haidu shared with his father. Introduced by Haidu's father, he grew up with the music of names such as Monk, Ben Webster, Cecil Taylor. When he was a young man, his father shared with him Keith Jarrett's seminal album The Köln Concert. But as someone who came from the Wynton Kelly or Gene Harris’ tradition, he couldn't connect with Keith Jarrett's piano technique. He was deeply affected when he listened to Jarrett at a Carnegie Hall concert at his father's request. What he felt was a distillation of a life experience. They had bought two tickets to Keith Jarrett's Carnegie Hall concert in February when Haidu's father's health began to deteriorate and they realized that they had less time to spend together. His father knew he wouldn't be able to see this concert. And unfortunately he was right. He passed away a week before the concert. To honor the memory of this precious experience that father and son used to go to the concert, he went to concert alone after his father’s passing. This emotional concert for everyone was also Keith Jarrett's final concert. Sure we didn’t no that. After the death of his father and the end of his 17-year marriage, Haidu sailed to listening sessions where he became more in-depth with Keith Jarrett recordings. He found time to focus more on his own group. The invaluable contributions of the legendary musicians Billy Hart and Buster Williams are a candidate to make this album one of the zenith albums of the modern era.

Probably the most special gift a father can give his son is the love of jazz. Or, in a wider perspective, it is the love of music. It is with pleasure that I could listen to this wonderful love of Keith Jarrett, which a jazz-loving father instilled in his son, has been recorded skillfully to make his father proud. Haidu's father must be somewhere in heaven listening to his son and be proud of him.

Keith Jarrett's musical legacy occasionally leads to tribute albums by various artists. If you're listening to a tribute album, you don't want to listen to an imitation version of the praised artist's music. This album is not one of them. It s a very unique one. Because each of the band members has their own distinctive voice.

In fact, the registration date for recording was planned for August, but due to Covid, it was decided to postpone it to November. When November came, they put on their masks and played their hearts out, instead of making the decision to postpone once again. The album was recorded at New York's Sear Sound on November 21-22. Slowly: Song for Keith Jarrett is a very modern, original and successful album. The group that Noah Haidu brought together with this legendary rhythm section will be remembered as an invaluable piece in the rising star pianist/composer’s discography.
